Balaia Golf sits 900 metres from the house as the crow flies — about twenty minutes on foot by road, or a couple of minutes in the car. Either way the round is a decision you can make over breakfast rather than a morning’s logistics. It is a nine-hole, par-3 course, short and generous: excellent for an early loop, for sharpening irons and short game, and genuinely good for anyone in the party who is still learning.
For the longer stuff, you are in the middle of the Algarve’s densest concentration of golf. A short drive west and east opens up the championship courses the region is known for, and you come back to a quiet house with three bathrooms and a pool rather than a hotel corridor.

Balaia is a nine-hole, par-3 course laid out among the residential streets of Balaia, with holes ranging from short pitches to mid-irons. It is not a championship test and does not pretend to be — it is a friendly, walkable course that suits an early round, a warm-up, or a group with mixed handicaps. Tee times, green fees and buggy hire are arranged directly with the club.
Travelling without clubs
Two sets of clubs are available to rent through Be Cherish, arranged when you book. A fee applies — Be Cherish will quote it — and it usually compares well with what an airline charges to carry your own bag both ways.
A note on golf groups
Casa Antonius suits a small group of friends playing golf very well. It does not suit a stag weekend. The condominium is residential, parties and loud disturbances are not permitted, and bookings from groups of under-25s are not accepted. Golfers who want a quiet house, an early alarm and a pool afterwards are exactly who this works for.
